The Humansdorp Regional Court sentenced a 32-year-old man to a total of 30 years imprisonment for farm attack in St Francis Bay in February this year.
The man will effectively serve 15 years of the sentence after he was convicted and sentenced for robbery with aggravating circumstances, kidnapping (two counts) and theft of motor vehicle.
On Friday, 30 July 2021, Humansdorp Regional Court sentenced Frans Nongolo (32), to a total of 30 years imprisonment for crimes ranging from robbery with aggravating circumstances to theft of motor vehicle.
The accused was sentenced as follows:
Fifteen years direct imprisonment for robbery with aggravating circumstances
Five years imprisonment for kidnapping
Five years imprisonment for kidnapping
Five years imprisonment for theft of motor vehicle
This sentence comes after the regional court heard that on Saturday, 27 February 2021 around 22:45, Nongolo and four others entered a farmhouse in Goedgeloof, St Francis Bay.
A couple was kidnapped and robbed of personal belongings including a motor vehicle. The evidence that was presented by the detective from forensic evidence to the use of social media (Facebook) in tracing Nongolo, and that led to his conviction. He was subsequently sentenced on Friday, 30 July 2021.
The sentences will run concurrently.
Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier John Lebok welcomed the sentence. “This sentence is a testimony to the unwavering commitment of the South African Police Service to prioritise crimes in rural areas both proactively and reactively”.
