Police in Kamesh have arrested a 19-year-old male suspect after he handed himself over to police on the night of 20 October 2021, at 18:30 for the murder of his girlfriend, a 16-year-old female.

Acting Nelson Mandela Bay District Commissioner, Brigadier Tandiswa Kupiso has strongly condemned the murder and added that the rights of women and children needs to be protected by all of our community, further adding “All crimes violating those rights will remain one of the key focus areas of the South African Police Service, and no stones will be left unturned to bring those perpetrators before court to answer for their crimes.”

Allegedly the murder took place on 11 October 2021 in the early hours of the morning at about 02:00 at a house in Bauhinia Crescent, Thomas Gamble, Kamesh, where the suspect lives.

His 16-year-old girlfriend, who lives in Rosedale, was visiting him at that time. She was not seen again and on 18 October 2021, her parents opened a missing person file at Kamesh police station.

The suspect handed himself over to police and pointed out that he buried her in the garden at his home in Bauhenia Crescent.

Police then found her body in a shallow grave at that premises and the suspect was subsequently arrested for her murder. He will be appearing before the Uitenhage Magistrates Court on 22 October 2021 for the murder.
