Boy (9) drowns in the Orange River

The SAPS of Maletswai received a report on 12 January 2022 of a 9-year-old boy that tragically drowned in the Orange River.

It is alleged that the three boys age 9, 8 and 7 from Vula Vala, who were friends, decided to have a swim in a shallow area of the Orange River.

Suddenly a very strong stream of water came down from a higher area and took one of the boys down the river where he drowned.

The friends were so scared and did not report it to their parents.

On the 12 January 2022 the parents of the boy who drowned came to look for him at the friend’s house as they thought he slept over at his friend’s house.

Sadly the parents got the news of their son that drowned and that the friends were too afraid to report the incident that happened.

The matter was reported to the SAPS Search and Rescue unit from Craddock that arrived on 13 January 2022 to assist with the search for the body.
