The body of missing woman, Desiree Baartman was recovered on the night of 20 June 2023, in a storm water drain next to Standford Road near the Jagtersvlakte area.
At about 21:00 SAPS Bethelsdorp detectives with the assistance of the K9 Search and Rescue and Diving Unit recovered her body which was recovered down a 3,7 metre storm water drain.
An autopsy will be done to determine the exact cause of death.
The ex-husband, Johnny Baartman appeared in the Gqeberha Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday, 20 June 2023.
Johnny Baartman (58) has now been charged for murder and defeating the ends of justice after foul play was suspected.
He is remanded in custody and is expected back in court on 21 June 2023 on charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
