On 27 June 2018 at about 17:00 the badly mutilated body of an elderly woman was found in the bushes close to monument crossing (intersection of R334 and R335) Motherwell.

A wood collector was collecting wood when he made the gruesome discovery of a faceless and badly mutilated body. Swartkops police opened a murder case.

However, a 77 year old lady was reported missing the previous day in the Motherwell area. The lady, Lillian Mapukana, was last seen walking to the shops in Mkhombe Street, NU1, Motherwell. Her niece reported her missing when she did not return home the next day.

After the discovery of the body, family positively identified her by means of the clothing she was wearing as well as her dreadlocks hair, as her face was unrecognisably mutilated.

Police are appealing to anybody with information that could assist police in this investigation to contact the Swartkops detectives at 041 408 8341 or 041 408 8318 or alternatively 08600 10111.
