This morning, 31 May 2018, at 11:00 Kinkelbos SAPS and other emergency response units were alerted to a possible drowning at Sundays River Mouth.

This followed after the 38 year old Ockert Erasmus alerted that his fishing friend, 39 year old Jacques Schamrel went missing while being on a fishing trip at Sundays River Mouth. Mr Erasmus alleged that both of them were on their small fishing boat, anchored in the middle of the river mouth, when he (Erasmus) went to sleep. He alleged that Mr Schamrel was still busy fishing.

When he woke up again at about 06:00, he noticed his friend missing from the boat. After spotting his friend’s clothing on the shore, he beached the boat there and searched for his friend in the sand dunes.

He alleged that by 09:00 after not finding his friend, he phoned his wife who in turn notified police.

By 14:00 police rescue teams and divers were still searching for Mr Schamrel.

Any person that might have information that could assist police is requested to contact Crime Stop at 08600 10111 or Kinkelbos police station at 041 468 0440.
