Being alert while conducting crime prevention duties led to the immediate arrest of an alleged robbery suspect in Rink Road in central Port Elizabeth.

It is alleged at on 7 January 2020, at about 10:55, three unknown males entered the property of a beauty salon and held up the complainant and his assistant with a firearm.

As the suspects were leaving with the money when the owner (38) tackled one of the robbers. The other two suspects ran off. The complainant was busy counting money when they entered and the two got away with R5000 . The owner tackled the suspect with the firearm and disarmed him.

While SAPS Port of Entry members were patrolling when they noticed a commotion outside the business. The members immediately made a U-turn and went to investigate. The suspect was apprehended and a revolver was confiscated.

The 20 year old suspect was arrested on charges of business robbery and illegal possession of a firearm and ammunition. He is expected to appear in court soon.
