Armed robbery, kidnapping, two arrested, Mthatha

Two men with ages 35 and 36 years were arrested by Mthatha police after an armed robbery and kidnapping of a 34 year shop owner at Maqhinebeni locality Qweqwe A/A in Mthatha today the 20 May 2018 at about 12h30.

It is alleged that three unknown gunmen pretended to buy at the victim’s shop they then robbed him an undisclosed amount of money, cigarettes, airtime, and his white Toyota bakkie and afterwards loaded him in their green Toyota Conquest.

After a chase by police the victim was dumped at Qokolweni locality and his bakkie was found abandoned at the same locality.

The suspects then fled in their Toyota Conquest but were cornered by police at Tyumbu Bridge and the suspects were found in possession of a 9mm Star pistol (numbers filed off) with 8 rounds of ammunition.

Their Toyota Conquest was also confiscated. They will appear before Mthatha Magistrate Court tomorrow the 21 May 2018 facing charges of armed robbery, theft of motor vehicle, kidnapping, possession of unlicensed firearm and illegal possession of ammunition.

The Acting Cluster Commander Brigadier Nomawethu Makonza applauded the members and said “I salute you all that were involved in this operation because your quick response saved a life. We need to protect our visitors and make them feel safe.”
