Two suspects, aged 21 and 28 years have been arrested by Mtontsasa police who were conducting patrols at Mdumazulu locality in Mtontsasa on 29 May 2020, at about 18:00. The balaclava clad suspects were caught whilst robbing a cellphone from a 38-year-old man.

They were found in possession of a homemade revolver with seven rounds of ammunition, a sword and a balaclava. The victim’s cellphone was also seized. They will appear before Flagstaff Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 1June 2020 facing charges of robbery with a firearm, possession of unlicensed firearm, unlawful possession of ammunition and possession of a dangerous weapon.

“It is good that we confiscate these illegal firearms. People were given an opportunity by the Government to hand in illegal and unwanted firearms from 31st December 2019 till 31 May 2020. We humbly request and advise people that you still have two days to come forward.” said the District Commissioner Major General David Kanuka.
