During the weekend, the Anti Gang Unit members recovered two firearms in separate incidents in the Northern areas. On Friday evening, 16 August 2019, at about 23:20 while Anti Gang Unit members were patrolling in Harrington Street in Acadia, they spotted 3 males running in different directions.

They noticed one male throwing something over a church wall as he ran. The males managed to escape however a 9mm pistol was found. The pistol was confiscated and will be sent to ballistics for analysis. Serial number was filed off.

In another incident it is alleged that on Saturday, 17 August 2019, at about 21:30 a shooting incident occurred outside a tavern in Marikana in Booysens Park where a 24 year old male was shot in his leg. The victim alleged that he was walking in the street with his girlfriend when he was shot in the left leg by an alleged gang member.

While still at the scene, Anti Gang Unit members searched the tavern as they received information that a firearm was inside. A 6.35 mm baby Browning pistol was found under a table. The firearm was reported stolen in Lansdowne in February 1989.

Several people were questioned however no arrests were made at this stage. The victim was transported to hospital prior to police arrival.

The Provincial Organised Crime Investigation (Gang Investigation) is investigating a case of attempted murder.
