In line with the SAPS back to basic approach in increasing visible policing members of the Crime Prevention unit in the Aliwal North Cluster, on Friday 22 March 2019, while on duty performing high visibility patrols were summoned to a shoplifting complaint in town.

While searching the suspect for shoplifting they found three 3 parcels of dagga in his possession. Suspect was arrested for shoplifting and possession of dagga.

They proceeded with their routine patrols and they stopped a suspicious person carrying a box. On inspection of content in the box they found suspected stolen goods belonging to a possible nearby Hospital or Clinic. Items were bedding, curtains. The suspect couldn’t give a satisfactory reason on where he found the goods.

He was then arrested for possession of suspect stolen property. Both suspects will appear on Monday 25 March 2019.

Aliwal North Cluster Commander Brigadier Trevor Mey congratulated the vigilance of members of CPU it is a job well done.
