On 23 March 2021, Stephanie Reeners (48) was convicted for a number of counts of fraud in Serious Commercial Crimes Court in Port Elizabeth.

It is alleged that between 1 November 2014 and 30 June 2017, Reneers in her capacity as the Central Administration Clerk at Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality accepted payments for new building plans. She pretended to the Building Inspectorate that tax invoices were receipted for by the Treasury Division whereas they were not.

The NMBM was defrauded of payments to the cash value of R640 607,36.

The conviction emanates from a number of court appearances she made at the Specialised Commercial Crimes Court in Gqebera.

The matter has been remanded for 4 May 2021 for sentencing.

The Hawks Serious Commercial Crime Investigation team is commended by the Provincial Head of Hawks Major General Mboiki Obed Ngwenya for their successful efforts in addressing Commercial Crime related matters.
