Accused sentenced to eight years imprisonment for rape

Eastern Cape police has welcomed the eight years imprisonment handed to 20-year-old Sizwe Mafika.

The accused was convicted of raping a 31-year-old woman on 08 May 2016 at about 16h30 at Mgomanzi Village, Butterworth.

The two were going to a tavern and on their way, the accused threatened the victim with a knife and raped her.

Violence committed against women and children is in the forefront of our fight against crime and offenders can expect that our investigators will pursue every avenue to ensure their conviction.

The accused was sentenced on Wednesday 05 July 2017 by the Butterworth Regional Magistrates’ Court.
