72 Eskom substation batteries recovered, man arrested, EC

Seventy two Eskom substation batteries with an estimated value of R589 000.00 were recovered by police in Mthatha on 22 November 2018. One male suspect, 39 was arrested in possession of the suspected stolen property and the vehicle used to transport the batteries was also confiscated.

Police received information and followed up until they recovered the vehicle with the suspected goods namely thirty five 12v batteries and thirty seven 2v batteries as well as fifteen bags of substation portable earths with markings.

These batteries are alleged to have been stolen from Telkom sites in Mthatha, Bridge Camp, Ngcobo, Ngqamakwe and Dutywa.

The suspect is expected to appear in court soon facing a charge of being in possession of suspected stolen property.
