During the early hours of 8 August 2021, a 35-year-old male was arrested when found in possession of 420 kilograms of copper wire.

The arrest followed after members from the K9 Dog unit in Cradock where conducting routine patrols on the N10 National road in the direction of Cookhouse, when they noticed a heavily loaded white Isuzu bakkie without working tail lights.

The vehicle was stopped whereby the driver fled in nearby bushes, but was apprehended.

When the vehicle was searched, copper cable with an estimated street value of R84 000-00 was discovered.

The suspect will appear before the Cradock magistrates’ Court on 10 August 2021 on charges relating to possession of suspected stolen copper wire.
