The multi-dimensional approach to the policing of Gender Based Violence and Femicide that is underway in Makhanda is yielding positive results.
The operations, which kick-started on 1 July 2021, managed to shut down every corner of Makhanda, as foot soldiers executed multidimensional intervention.
The successes:
A total of 42 people were arrested.
13 Of them were arrested during suspect raiding mostly for contravening the protection order.
14 Were traffic offences.
13 For contravening the Disaster Management Act regulations.
And 2 were caught for drugs related crimes.
A total of 26 interim protection orders were served to respondents to fight Domestic violence and reduce Gender Based Violence and Femicide incidents.
Police confiscated illicit drugs valued over R5 000 and R1 065.00.
Operations are underway, and police are urging residents to adhere to the Covid-19 regulations and protocols.
