Members’ continuous efforts to prevent and detect stolen stock as well as maintaining a good relationship with the community yielded success in Maletswai.

It is alleged that on 28 May 2023 at 02:56, K9 unit members were informed by a community member from Sterkspruit that he was pursuing a white Mazda loaded with 5 sheep stolen from his Kraal in Naledi village Sterkspruit and he was about 15km towards Aliwal North.

K9 unit requested backup and the R58 route was being monitored.

The suspicious vehicle was spotted and stopped at the entrance of Aliwal North town.

Four suspects aged between 24 and 30 were arrested and the 5 sheep to the value of R 10 000-00 were recovered.

On further investigation it was alleged that the suspects paid R350-00 and one mandrax tablet to an accomplice for the sheep and a further drugs payment would follow after the sale of the sheep.

The suspects will appear before court on a charge of possession of stolen stock.

The Acting District Commissioner Brig Asogran Naidoo commended the members for their swift reaction to the information that led to the successful arrests and recovery of the stolen stock.
