In a concerted effort to address and prevent the commission of serious and violent crimes in the Nelson Mandela Bay metro, alert police officials from SAPS Ikamvelihle, arrested four male suspects who were found in possession of a prohibited firearm.

SAPS members were busy conducting stop and search operations in Maku Road, Ikamvelihle at 17:20 on Wednesday, 29 December 2021, when they noticed the driver of a VW Golf acting suspiciously.

Police officers pulled the vehicle off the road and upon searching the vehicle, they discovered a 9mm short Browning pistol.

The four suspects (ages between 20 and 30 years old) were arrested on the scene on a charge of possession of prohibited firearm. The firearm will be sent for ballistic analysis.

The suspects are expected to appear in the Motherwell magistrate’s court soon.
