The Eastern Cape Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga has appreciated the work of the investigators who managed to arrest one of the two suspects who murdered three people including two elderly women and left a six year old child at the scene and without parents.

The 47-year-old suspect Thembile Lhalha Gwazela who is believed to be related to the deceased elderly, was arrested on the weekend of the Women’s Day in one of the localities at Mqanduli.

He appeared at Mqanduli on Tuesday 10 August 2021, on murder charges and the case was remanded to the 18 August 2021 for Bail Application.

This particular incident occurred on Wednesday night 9 June 2021 at Nkalweni Locality, in Mqanduli. At the time, the initial investigation revealed that two unidentified suspects arrived at the homestead and knocked on the main house where the family was relaxing. On realizing that there was difficulty opening the door, they forced their way inside and started shooting the son who was next to the door.

They then proceeded to the mother and aunt who were also with him in the house. The suspects shot all three family members aged between 27 and 61 who died at the scene. After the incident, the suspects disappeared into the village.
