In an effort to fight crime and taking unlicensed firearms off the streets Tactical Response Unit (TRT) deployed at Butterworth received information on the night of 14 July 2022 and arrested two suspects aged 32 and 47 for possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition
The arrest comes after Police followed up on information of two suspects preparing to flee to Cape Town with illegal firearms at about 21:00 in Xholingada Location, Willowvale.
They then proceeded to the location and upon arrival at the first house they were granted permission by the house occupant to search the house. During the search a firearm (9mm) was recovered and a magazine with eight live ammunition was confiscated by police.
In the same locality the team proceeded to another house and upon searching they recovered a black Norinco 9mm pistol and live ammunition. The suspect failed to produce a license to carry firearm.
Both suspects will appear before the Willowvale Magistrate Court on Monday 18 July 2022.
The Acting Amathole District Commissioner Brigadier Ngangema Xakavu appreciated the job done by members of Tactical Response Unit in ensuring that firearms which are the main weapon used in murders at Willowvale are confiscated and crime is prevented.
