SAPS Ikamvelihle Vispol Task Team arrested two alleged murder suspects within 7 hours of each other and recovered two firearms on the night of 7 September 2021.

It is alleged that on Saturday, 4 September 2021 at about 23:00, Simpiwe Nhando from NU1 in Motherwell was severely assaulted in Gaba Street in NU2 in Motherwell. He was taken to the Motherwell Health Centre by his father and later died due to the injuries sustained.

On Monday evening, at about 18:45, Ikamvelihle Task Team members received and followed up on information of a possible suspect in a white Hyundai Elantra in Gaba Street. A 19-year-old suspect was arrested and the vehicle was confiscated.

At about 02:15 on 8 September 2021, the Task Team members also arrested a second murder suspect, aged 18-years-old at a house in Gaba Street. Two firearms and ammunition were confiscated (serial numbers filed off).

Both suspects are detained on a charge of murder and an additional charge of prohibited possession of firearms and illegal possession of ammunition are added against the 18-year-old suspect.

They are expected to appear in court soon.
