2 Cradock robbery suspects handed hefty sentences

On the Thursday, 2 December 2021, Cradock Regional Court handed down sentences to two robbery accused. The robberies were committed during two unrelated incidents.

During the first incident on Tuesday, 14 January 2020, a 17-year-old male was robbed of a cellphone in Bree Street, Cradock. On 2 December 2021, a 21-year-old male was found guilty at the Cradock Regional court on charges relating to robbery with aggravating circumstances and was sentenced to 12 years direct imprisonment.

The investigating officer, Detective Sergeant L.S. Eyssen also recovered the stolen cellphone.

During the second incident on Wednesday, 23 September 2020, children aged 12 and 15 were robbed of their cellphones in Sion Street, Michausdal in Cradock.

On 2 December 2021, a 24-year-old male was found guilty in the Cradock Regional Court, on charges relating to:

Count 1: Robbery with a weapon other than a firearm, and
Count 2: Robbery

The accused was sentenced to 15 years direct imprisonment. The investigation official was Detective Sergeant T. Fitole.

The Acting District Commissioner, Brigadier Magqashela applauded the investigating officers for their commitment and dedication to ensure a safer community.
