Two farm attack took place in the Lilyfontein area in Brakfontein outside East London, in the Eastern Cape province of South Africa. The attacks took place on Thursday 8 and Friday 9 September 2022.

Farmers, police and private security personnel launched a follow up operation after the attack by four armed assailants on Friday morning 9 September 2022.

Four armed attackers, wearing face masks, first overpowered a farm labourer outside the farm. He was assaulted before being forced to the farm farmhouse at gunpoint.

The attackers overpowered the farmer’s wife and the farm worker was locked up in a room in the house, with his hands tied behind his back.

The attackers who demanded money suddenly fled on foot after something disturbed them. This most likely prevented a much more sinister scenario from playing out.

On Thursday 8 September 2022, two attackers arrived at a farm and when the woman went out to greet them she was overpowered and forced back into the home. She was assaulted and tied up.

The attackers raided the home and fled with valuables and other household items.

After the Friday attack and subsequent operation one of the attackers was tracked down and arrested after trying to hijack vehicle at a local petrol station.

The arrested suspect was caught with a gun in his possession, as well as a cellphone suspected of being stolen in one of the two attacks.

The search for his accomplices continues. There is no other information available at this stage.
