1365 suspects arrested, 41 firearms recovered in one week, EC

Over 1360 criminals were put behind bars through the efforts by the men and women in blue who remain committed in protecting and serving our communities within the Eastern Cape Province.

Lieutenant General Liziwe Ntshinga, the Provincial Commissioner of the Eastern Cape thanked all the members and officials who have yielded the sterling results and said, “We are determined to make our communities safer and free from criminals and criminal activities. We need the community to work closely with their local police to ensure that more criminals who are terrorising our community are placed behind bars.”

Between the 23 and 30 July 2018, one thousand three hundred and sixty five suspects were arrested during various operations held within the Province, these include forty eight for murder, seventeen for attempted murder, twenty one for rape, two hundred and one for assault with intent to do grievous bodily harm, two hundred for drug related crimes, sixty three for driving under the influence of alcohol, twenty one for illegal possession of firearms and ammunition.

During the said period thirty nine pistols/ revolvers and two rifles were seized.

The suspects face various charges within their areas of jurisdiction.
