In order to prevent and combat crime that may threaten the safety and security of community members, police officials from the Uitenhage Cluster conducted integrated roadblocks on the R334 and the R336 on Friday, 21 July 2017.

In line with our Back to Basics approach, law enforcement was intensified with the assistance of the Metro Police on these roads leading into the Uitenhage area.

A total of 335 vehicles were stopped and searched and 34 traffic fines to the value of R18 550-00 were issued.

Members also continued to clamp down on criminal activities over the past weekend, Friday, 21 July 2017 until Monday, 24 July 2017 and it resulted in the arrest of a total of 119 suspects on various charges.

These arrests include robbery, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, theft and the possession of suspected stolen goods. 23 Suspects were arrested for the illegal possession of drugs.

The South African Police Service wants to encourage the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime and they appeal to the community to provide valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects, the tracing of illegal firearms and the recovery of stolen property.
