In the early hours of 22 July 2020, police officers from the Inanda Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit arrested a 35-year-old man at Mount Aylif in Eastern Cape for two counts of rape.

It is alleged that during the month January 2019, the suspect, together with two men, raped a woman at a tavern in Sydenham. She reported the matter at the Sydenham police station where a rape case was opened and transferred to Inanda FCS Unit for investigation.

In February of 2019, the 35-year-old suspect also assaulted and raped a woman (24) at a communal bathroom in Sydenham. She reported the rape at the Sydenham police station and the matter was again referred to the Inanda FCS Unit for investigation.

Investigators traced the suspect in Eastern Cape, Mount Aylif. At about 02:00 the suspect was arrested in Mvalweni area. The 35-year-old man will be charged with two charges of rape and will appear at the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday, 24 July 2020.
