Drug dealer caught in Durban raid

Narcotics cops swooped on an alleged Umbilo drug dealer late on Wednesday night after receiving a tip-off about his den.

Police spokesperson Major Thulani Zwane said that the Flying Squad Narcotic Drug members had been on patrol when the tip came in.

“Members were patrolling around the Umbilo area when they followed up information about drugs in the precinct.”

“The members identified the suspect’s house and it was searched. Four big full moon rock cocaine pieces and 28 small pieces of rock cocaine to the street value of R7 600 [were] recovered. A 30-year-old man was arrested and charged with possession of drugs,” Zwane said.

The alleged drug peddler is due to appear in the Durban Magistrate’s Court on Friday.

The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni, commended the members for the arrest.

“We will continue targeting those suspected drug dealers and arrest them if found with drugs. We also appeal to the community to work with the police in getting rid of drugs in our society,” she said.
