ANC President Ramaphosa initially indicated that he would not oppose the application of the opposition to force him to abandon Bathabile Dlamini. However, shortly before the announcement of the cabinet shuffle, he announced that he would oppose the application.
Political experts say that the command came from the ANC’s inner circles. Dlamini has been chastised by Judge Froneman about her deception in court and instructed that the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) should investigate whether or not she has committed a perjury.
Even the ANC’s bed mate Cosatu is unhappy with the fact that Dlamini and Mokonyane did not get fired. Two members of the ANC executive committee apparently said there would be flames if Dlamini was posted.
Observers say that the president had deceived and probably never planned to fire the controversial minister.
