The list of dignitaries who are suspended has been extended with the name of the Director-General of Agriculture, Mike Mlengana.

Mlengana was suspended by the Minister of Agriculture and also President of the SACP, Senzeni Zokwana.

Not many details have surfaced as yet, and the reason for the suspension is apparently another secret. All that is reported in a statement is that Mlengana has been suspended as a “precautionary measure” while some internal investigation is under way.

Mooketsa Ramasodi, Deputy Director of Agricultural Production: Food and Health, was appointed as Acting Director General.

It is speculated that the suspension may have to do with recent disclosures regarding the drought relief aid not paid to farmers.

Mlengana was the former head of the African Farmer’s Union of South Africa, Afasa.
