Apparently, National Treasury has requested that the Department of Water and Sanitation should be placed under administration because the department is more than R4.3 billion in the red.
It is alleged that internal control, project management, and contract management totally collapsed. The department is under investigation by the Public Protector and the Special Investigation Unit.
An R26 billion project for the Lesotho Highlands scheme and tender procedures at the Giyani project is also being investigated. The Giyani project’s estimated cost of R500 million has risen to R5 billion.
It is not only smoke here, but a reasonable smell of corruption, fraud, and mismanagement despite beautiful promises by the ANC, just cannot be eradicated.
