The DA is now trying to get Patricia de Lille to volunteer to resign as mayor of Cape Town. She has already been effectively stripped of all her powers.
A possible second motion of no confidence may follow her if she refuses to resign. A first no confidence motion against her failed, even though she survived this motion with only one vote.
This means that she is currently a ceremonial mayor because she can not attend DA caucus meetings.
According to observers, the DA is just as paralyzed by infighting like the ANC is, which does not make the DA a tempting alternative to the ANC.
