A number of senior DA leaders are planning to break away from the party and establish a “true liberal party” with a view to the 2019 elections.
Helen Zille is apparently one of the protagonists who is not satisfied with Mmusi Maimane’s leadership, although she was very pleased when he took over with her.
The party leadership claims that the allegations are just gossip stories.
However, Dr. Frans Cronjé of the Institute for Racial Relations has confirmed that several meetings have taken place to establish a new liberal party involving politicians, businessmen and journalists.
