Pretoria, South Africa – An outing to a trim park turned into a scary experience, when Jacobus and Nicolene van der Merwe (both 53years old) was sitting on a bench in a the park in Roper Street.
2 Men approached them and asked for matches. “The next moment the men had knives – ordered me to put my mobile phone on the ground,” Jacobus said.
One of the men moved over to Nicolene and she started screaming for help. As Jacobus got up, the one man tried to rip at him with the knife. Jacobus hit the man, who then stabbed Jacobus in the arm and in his face.
A shuffle ensued and they both landed on the ground, but Jacobus kept on punching and kicking while the 2nd man attacked him from behind. Jacobus said his wife kept on screaming for help. Then the 2 perpetrators got up and strolled away without a care in this world.
Nobody was interested in helping the traumatised couple or tried to phone the police.
The couple went to the Eugene Marais Hospital where Jacobus’ wounds were treated. He laid charges at the Wonderpoort Police Station.
