The unhappiness in the so-called tripartite alliance with Jacob Zuma has also affected Cosatu.
Cosatu wants the minister of social development, Bathabile Dlamini, to be dismissed as a minister.
Dlamini is still unable to make a satisfactory arrangement for the orderly payment of social allowances by SASSA, and Cosatu believes that the post office will take over the payment process of the benefits in total.
According to Cosatu, 17 million people are at risk under the minister’s actions and that she must, therefore, be dismissed. Cosatu points out that the president does not hesitate to make cabinet reshuffles, but Dlamini survives every time.
Earlier, the SACP, the other member of the alliance, decided to participate in some municipal elections in its own right, and a conversation between the ANC and the SACP earlier this week apparently did not lead to anything and another meeting will follow.
