The Standing Committee on Public Accounts (Scopa) expressed their shock on 41 corruption cases that ended in plea bargains and reduced sentences.
Matters investigation had a monetary value ranged between R5 and R89 million, and there are reports that two cases were more than R1 billion.
In 42 cases there were 29 convictions and 12 plea bargains but most ended with a suspended five-year imprisonment.
Members of Scopa see it as only a tap on the wrist of the perpetrators.
The question is therefore asked who protects who in all cases.
