Johannesburg – The five officers had just knocked off from their Rooigrond correctional centre 6am to 4.30pm shift and were on their way back home to Mahikeng.
A head-on collision on Monday between their car and a police officer’s vehicle claimed the lives of all the men.
Four Correctional Services officers – Tiisetso Motsamai, Charles Sekgobela, Luncedo Thangela and Simon Lesajane – died at the scene, while their colleague Johannes Moruledi died on the way to Victoria private hospital.
“A car carrying five correctional officials had a head-on collision with a police car, leaving the six officials dead, five of them on the accident scene while the sixth was declared dead at hospital,” Sapa reported police spokesman Lawrence Ngoveni as saying.
