Constitutional Court ordered inquiry into social grants

Die Vryburger

The Constitutional Court ordered a judicial inquiry into the social grants debacle with a view to determining whether Minister Bathabile Dlamini deceived the court in her statements.

A “Referee” will be appointed to investigate the matter after which a report will be submitted to the court. The referee will have to determine whether Dlamini tried to hide her personal responsibilities in the crisis to avoid such accountability.

Two senior officials, Thokozani Magwaza and Zane Dangor, claim that Dlamini has gone over their heads and took personal control to put in place the new payment system. She has already publicly apologized for the mess around the payment of grants but later changed her apology to ‘in essence’ deny the responsibility for her actions.
