Comrade Zuma according to Mandela is unique – what happened
Economic exclusion feeds the politics of patronage in South Africa

The African National Congress (ANC) is morally and ethically bad. Jacob Zuma, the president of South Africa, has now reached the end of the road or has he?

During 2007, former President Nelson Mandela did praise Jacob Zuma as the man who could unite the divided party. In his message of congratulations, Nelson Mandela said that his experience of Comrade Zuma is a person and leader who is inclusive in his approach, a unifier, and one who values reconciliation and collective leadership. He continued and said there was no doubt that Jacob Zuma will bring those well-known characteristics to his task of leading the ANC organization.

Jacob Zuma at that time was quoted “as the leader who will never fail his people”. The ANC KwaZulu-Natal secretary Johan Mchunu said that Zuma was a tried and tested leader, a man of honor and integrity and will be the country’s greatest president.

Zuma was also compared to the founder and first president of the ANC Dr. John Langalibalele Dube, a liberator, activist and a man of his people. There was relentless praise for Zuma and how he would remain passionate about education during that time.

Fast forward to 2016 and now it does not matter that Zuma is a disgrace to South Africa and that the presidency is not moving South Africa out of a third world status. It is not a question of finding fault with Zuma or an obsession with the poor performance of the ANC-led government, rather it is an awareness that the struggle is far from over. Zuma and the ANC government do not care about the people, and the ANC elite will rally behind Zuma giving full support of the wasteful expenditure. Zuma lives, the ANC leads, and fools follow, simply because the country does not come first and the president is not a liability.

How long will South Africa be cursed with the ANC party? The power of the ANC that comes with extreme wealth is a corruptive force. South Africa is tired of a president that sings, giggles, and dances for the masses, tired of a president that is a womanizer and corrupt.

The narrowing and deepening morally depraved circle of corrupt leaders of the ANC is rewarded by the willingness to follow the traveling circus of looters. Members of the ANC have long been on a path of purging members of the party. Where are the integrity and honesty?

From over 700 corruption charges, to spy type and self-enrichment, the president proves that tact and strategy to overcome the battle of enemies who would like nothing more than the downfall of this man. A president without a matric certificate, countless public blunders, and scandals, Zuma survives because the power is not spineless and does not depend on morals. Whatever is uncovered or thrown at the president, survival is the tactical response. The man is a trained guerilla fighter from the intelligence background of the ANC, and it would take more than neo-liberals to overthrow the president.

Through the arrogance of President Jacob Zuma, South Africa is exploding into a gulf of uncertainty. It is not only the arrogance of Zuma but the members of the ANC party whom willing and blindly cover up the mistakes, corruption, and mismanagement. South Africa has a president that tramples on the constitution and the ANC party refuses to take action. President Zuma will not resign, and the ANC will not recall Zuma,

Zuma is a corrupt leader filling government structure with conformists in a bid to stay in power. Given the fact that this type of leadership is the culture throughout most provinces in South Africa, it renders democracy worthless. For Zuma this strategy is effective.

The president of South Africa Jacob Zuma has displayed the arrogance of power and citizens are rallying to campaign for the ousting of Zuma. It is clear that Zuma and advisors have no clue about the crucial importance of stability and symbolism within the government. The economy of South Africa has a battered image, and the credit worthiness is almost at junk status because of the infrastructure concerns. The high debt, balance of payment deficits and general government inefficiency in all provinces has declined rapidly.

Despite the massive challenges posed by Zuma and the corrupt cadres, it is heartwarming to see South Africans from all occupations agreeing on the failings of Zuma. Together people are taking action and calling for the fall of Zuma. South Africans are acquainted with what Zuma is doing and realizes that the president understands the consequences, yet does not care. Zuma has three more years in office and intends to make every moment count. The motivation of Zuma is to take care of the ANC cadres, and the impact on the country is completely irreverent. The ANC need to clean up the mess and a good place to start would be within the political party, starting from the top.
