De Wet, on the management committee of the Herstigte Nasionale Party, said it ‘was like a little war that morning at my plot’… In a statement issued by the HNP, it was announced that four black male attackers attacked the De Wet smallholding on 7 April at 11am. He was waiting for roof-repair people who were going to fix his roof. Initially he believed that a group of black men who showed up were roofers. When de Wet wanted to step outside to show them where to fix the roof, the men rushed into his kitchen and attacked him before he could raise his firearm. They tried to force him to the bedroom to ‘open the safe’…
