Protesters and arsonists blocked roads in and around Cape Town with burning tires and a truck has been burned. The R300 and the N7 were closed for traffic.

In Pretoria, residents of Eersterust also went to the streets and blocked roads with burning tires. Stormvoël avenue was also barricaded.

A police spokesperson W/O Johan van Wyk says police are on the scene, but no one has been arrested because the protest is “peaceful”.

The public is astonished at that approach by the police considering that tires are being burned and streets are being cut off. I this acceptable?

Meanwhile, bus services in Eersterust have been suspended due to the protest action.

And in Dundee, schools were closed as a result of protest action by residents and children. Police are monitoring the situation while shops are closed because of fear of “free trade”.
