Traffic in the seaside city was majorly affected by three incidents on Wednesday, including protesters burning tyres near the M5.
A woman was also killed on the N2 Boulevard just outside the city’s CBD as peak hour traffic began to stream into the city.
There were no further details on the victim’s identity.
The accident occurred just before 06:00 near the Searle Street turn-off. Traffic was backed up as one lane was closed.
Meanwhile, a man was also killed in a hit-and-run on Mew Way in Khayelitsha, said Western Cape Traffic chief Kenny Africa.
In a third incident, about 200 people held a protest in Vrygrond over taxi permits not being issued, police said.
“The group blocked the entrances into Vrygrond Avenue as well as Prince George Avenue,” spokesperson Captain FC van Wyk said.
“They have also burnt tyres on the road, making it impossible for motorists to enter or exit.”
Police were on scene and the roads are now cleared.
