Cable theft escalates to pylon theft?

Several suburbs in the South and North of Johannesburg are still without power after the theft of electricity pylons. EWN reports that affected areas include Eldorado Park, Freedom Park, Lenasia, Craighall Park, the Johannesburg CBD, and parts of Pretoria.

Residents are frustrated and have complained that they have not had power since yesterday and that calls to power authorities have gone unanswered.

Sapa reports that the power interruption was caused by the theft of 88kV electricity pylons between the Nirvana and Nancefield substations.

City Power spokesperson, Sol Masolo, told Sapa that electricians have been deployed to the relevant areas and have started replacing the stolen pylons…
