An elderly father and his daughter was able to defend themselves with pocket knives when they were attacked at Jonkershoek in Stellenbosch.
Riana Daffue and her father, Kobus Snyman (82 years) and his friend were attacked by three young men while they went for a walk at the Rozendal reservoir at Jonkershoek.
Their attackers surrounded them and demanded money. In the ensuing scuffle, one of the attackers got stabbed after which they ran away. Daffue was stabbed in the hand while her father sustained bruises. His friend (also in her eighties) was unharmed.
Daffue called the police and a police officer answered their call for help simply by saying he was busy. After her unsuccessful call to the police a friend was contacted who called for help. She was very upset because there were people close to them during the attack, but no one came to their aid.
She and her father (from Warmbaths) went to visit in the Western Cape, but always wear pocket knives with them.
