BFLF threatens more journalists

After the radical splinter group with strong ties to the Guptas, Black First Land First (BLF) attacked two journalists from Business Day last week, and then threatened other journalists with a beating.

Among the journalist threatened were far left Max du Preez, the equally far left Adriaan Basson of News24, and Peter Bruce, chief editor of Business Day, Sam Sole of ama-Bhungane Stephen Grootes, a political journalist of EWN, Barry Bateman, journalist of EWN and Alec Hogg, a business journalist.

In a recent statement, BFLF stated that they were going to target journalists “spreading racism, blasphemy, fake news and who protect white corruption under the guise of journalism.”

FF Plus has said that they strongly condemn the victimization of journalists and support the South African National Editors’ Forum (Sanef) in their action against (BFLF).

Adv. Anton Alberts, the FF Plus parliamentary spokesman for communication, said it is extremely worrying that journalists are now targeted because they deal with government corruption and are a major shield between the citizens of South Africa and the state capture accompanied with stripping of the Treasury.

“It is clear that the dark forces led by the Guptas and president Jacob Zuma are a desperate Mafia-style style, who declared war against those exposing their deeds.”

“The war against ordinary citizens have turned to a level of personal attacks and suffering. The death of journalist Suna Venter and the terrifying victimization she was subjected to is an example of this.”
