With the technically bankrupt road accident fund, lawyers have now set their sights on medical practitioners who may make possible “mistakes” during treatment of patients.
It is particularly gynecologists that are apparently targeted where possible complications during birth can lead to problems and even deaths of babies.
According to Aaron Motsoaledi, Minister of Health, the legal system provided the opportunity for lawyers to prosecute on a commission-based basis, even where cases have no merit.
