We have been so accustomed to protests and strikes in South Africa that one hardly looks up if you see a group of people shouting and screaming down the road. It is just another bunch of barbaric screaming people making noise about something.
What is maddening is that someone else has to clean up after them.
If you have an attitude of destroying, being dirty and messing and you are satisfied with that, then it is your case.
But appreciate that the rest of us who like order, cleanliness and beauty have to then pick up the rubbish afterwards and this does not really help cultivate any sympathy or respect.
On the contrary, this makes us think more and more: If that’s the price of nation building and unity, then we’d rather do without it.
