When a person reads the story of a man who is traveling around South Africa on horseback it would seem like an exciting, adventurous story, yet in the space of one week, it is unbelievable and seems impossible that a single family can experience such heartache in such a short space of time.
Werner Kruger is traveling around South Africa, and hopes to complete 7,777 km on horseback. An attempt to bring awareness to the problems currently affecting the Boer nation, the white minority. To bring awareness to South Africa and the world and to acknowledge the genocide that took place against the Boer people, at the hands of the British Empire.
Werner posted on Facebook that his mind is in tatters, and said: “yesterday was one of the longest days of my life”.
On Wednesday, last week, his uncle from St Lucia was attacked and stabbed with a knife by five suspects who dragged him out of the house. The suspects then raped his aunt. Blood covered the bedroom, even the yellow curtains were stained with the red blood. Escaping with goods, the suspects are still at large. Two old defenseless people victims of crime that will destroy their lives forever.
Werner’s father upon hearing the devastating news was so upset that he suffered a heart attack. He is in a Pretoria hospital, receiving treatment. The worst is over a full recovery is expected.
While rushing to get to the hospital, a minor accident happened when the bonnet of the car hit the windshield. It’s not raining, it’s pouring out disaster for this family.
While at the hospital visiting his father, Werner saw a man with terrible sores on his stomach, eating leftover food from other people’s trays in the cafeteria. Looking through the eyes of compassion Werner spoke to the man, who told him that four black males attacked him two weeks ago. The man was kicked in his ribs; the suspects tied him with a rope around his arms, hooked him to the back of their pickup van and dragged him through the streets, then left him on the side of a road. While talking to the man, Werner said he was so ill he vomited blood for almost a half an hour.
Here is a young man, who has in the space of a week experienced such heartache through the brutal crimes committed against innocent people. Werner is trying to cope with the devastation that changed his family and the only good news received is that his father, who is still in the hospital is making a slow recovery.
