As expected, Zuma to appeal ruling on Shaun Abrahams
Jacob Zuma and Shaun Abrahams

As expected, the ANC head of state, Jacob Zuma, appealed against the order of the High Court that deputy president Cyril Ramaphosa should appoint the head of the national prosecuting authority.

According to Zuma’s application, the court erred in constitutionally recognizing two presidents in the country and awarding both executive powers.

It follows from the court order that Shaun Abrahams must vacate his post. The court argues that Zuma has several criminal charges pending against him and so cannot appoint someone to investigate his (Zuma) affairs.

Meanwhile, it has been calculated that Zuma’s legal costs are already in the region of R6 million.

Some other organizations have also approached the Constitutional Court with a request that the Pretoria High Court order be ratified. They argue that the Supreme Court touched on constitutional issues that should be ratified by the Constitutional Court.

The SA Council for Churches, however, called on Zuma to not appeal.
