Armed robber opened fire on a farmer in Esenembe near Tongaat

An armed robber opened fire on a farmer in Esenembe near Tongaat, KwaZulu-Natal on September 15, 2015 at approx 13:43.

The suspect gained entry to a home and robbed a male resident at gunpoint, taking his phone and personal belongings. The suspect then handed the victim his sim card from his Nokia cellphone.

The suspect, an African male, who was attired in a multi colored shirt and blue pants then fled on foot. The victim ran to a nearby farm and informed a farmer of the robbery.

The farmer and victim drove on a dirt road and noticed a suspect fitting the description. Upon approaching him the suspect drew a 9mm pistol and fired two shots at the farmer. The suspect fled into the sugar cane plantation.

Members of Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA), the Umhlali Dog Unit and Tongaat SAPS responded to the scene and cordoned off a large area. Upon request from the Police, the RUSA Helicopter was despatched and combed a vast area while the dog unit search the dense bush.

No arrest were made.
