In spite of the fact that a lot of ministers only pay between R988 and R1200 a month rent for their homes, the Department of Public Works has announced that that there is an amount of R1,2 million in arrears for rent payments by the ministers.
This means that nearly 1,000 months of rent were not paid by ministers and deputy ministers.
Opinion polls say that the ANC president Cyril Ramaphosa and his campaign to fight corruption, seems to have to start with his own cabinet and government departments.
However, the debt is now being placed on the system where departments do not institute rental recoveries on ministers’ salaries.
